Talking about heart problems, it must be said that there are more than one type of heart diseases. The most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease. This is what most of the time happens: A deposit of fatty material is formed on the inner lining of an arterial wall. Over time this will cause arteries to get smaller in width and to become harder. This is called atherosclerosis. The consequences of this medical condition are angina or heart attack.
Even though heart disease strikes men more often than women, there is an increasing trend of women suffering from heart abnormalities. This may be due to the fact that there are less and less differences between the two opposite sexes when it comes to working habits and everyday stress they 're submitted to. Many women, but also doctors, are still not aware of this trend and still believe that heart destructive conditions are somewhat men related. This can be backed up by the research that has shown that doctors are more reluctant to diagnose and treat heart related illness in a woman than a man even though both may have the same symptoms. It may sound strange today but the fact is that 15-20 years ago researches on heart diseases often did not include women. The results with men were assumed to be the same for women. There has been a progress in the recent decade and it is now acknowledged by the common and medical public that today's way of life is taking its toll on women heart and cardiovascular system like never before.
It is apparent that this trend related to heart problems in female population will put additional pressure on women towards taking all the actions that are helping in minimizing risk factors. It seems like diets and exercise will not only be so important for keeping body slim and beautiful, but also for allowing the main part of our body, our heart, to work properly.
